Di rosso era tinto l’odore
dell’aria montando a capriole
il fumo offuscava la scia
splendente dell’astro segnale
invano scrutavano volta
i saggi in cammino seguendo
profetico invito in Scrittura
cometa vi guidi laddove
il Figlio dell’Uomo si avvera
scomparsa la stella orientante
al buio smarrita la via
la guerra infuriava tra palme
squarciava uliveti e granai
violava giacigli e ripari
un arduo percorso in ricerca
la fede guidava le menti
sfidava le spine e gli agguati
un vento improvviso irruento
degli angeli un battito in schiera
scacciò degli umani l’orrore
cometa indicava una grotta
richiamo fu accolto da quanti
correvano in cerca di scampo
trovarono attorno al neonato
la quiete e il calore di bestie
la stalla allargava accoglienza
i doni dei magi a ristoro
dei volti straziati e adoranti
nel bimbo l’attesa salvezza

Red-tinged smell of the air
gyrating and spinning
the smoke was clouding the trail,
bright, of the signal celestial
in vain did they gaze at the vault
the wise men on their way
prophetic invite in the Scriptures pursuing
to the place a comet shall guide you
where Son of Man will come true
the oriental star disappeared
the way lost in the darkness,
the war raged among the palm trees,
tore through olive groves and granaries,
violated shelters and beds
in a toilsome journey of quest
faith guided their minds
braving thorns and ambushes
a sudden, gushing, strong wind
of hosts of angels the wings-beat
drove out the horror from humans
the comet was pointing a cave
the call was heeded by those who
were running in search of escape
they found around the newborn
the stillness and warmth of the beasts
the stable inclusive the welcome
the gifts of the Magi a relief
for tormented faces, and adoring,
in the child the awaited salvation

Dal 1991 ogni anno invio agli amici una poesia come lettera di auguri per Natale. Racconto in versi la storia di un bambino che nasce in condizioni precarie da una coppia costretta a muoversi, a emigrare. La nascita avviene in situazioni difficili, talvolta estreme, in diverse zone del mondo. Il parto, clandestino perché ai genitori viene rifiuta l’ospitalità, diventa un evento straordinario, indicato dall’apparizione di una stella cometa. La nascita di Cristo, che segna la storia, si ripete in dicembre dappertutto nel mondo, assume volti dai tratti disparati, è accolta da personaggi in ricerca interiore. Il bambino, povero tra i poveri, è un messaggio di speranza e di salvezza.
Nel pdf Storie della Natività trovate, in una pubblicazione modulare, la raccolta scaricabile di tutte le storie con l’aggiunta di sei poesie (Tempo di Natale) che completano il presepe. La traduzione in inglese è di Rodolfo Longo dal 1991 a 2019. Dopo la sua scomparsa, le traduzioni dal 2020 sono di Claudio Cornini. Le illustrazioni sono di Liuba Novozhilova, la direzione artistica è di Sergio De Bernardo.

Nativity stories in verse written as wishing letters year after year. It all started in 1991, Christmas Time. I just meant to send my unconventional wishes to my friends. I have told Jesus’ Nativity, a verse story of a child born in precarious circumstances to a couple forced to travel, move, migrate.
The birth grows into an extraordinary event, signaled by the apparition of a comet. The birth of Christ, a historical mark, repeats itself every year anywhere around the world, in harsh situations, assumes various aspects, is received by people in interior quest. That child, poor among the poor, is a message of hope and salvation.
The book, (Italian-English), (download the pdf) is a modular edition, electronic format, not for sale. It contains the Christmas letters in the same form as in yearly delivery.
Through the years the aforesaid works have been published in newspapers, magazines, reviews, websites, and delivered by traditional and electronic mail.The poems have been read out in public meetings and on TV channels, on the air and on the Internet.
